Stepping out for growth. Actuaries are smart, well trained, and potentially very valuable in many roles and industries. So why are they not better known and utilised? Many people do not know what actuaries can do and offer, both in wider fields outside financial services and outside ‘traditional ‘ areas within financial services. At a professional level, how do we grow the understanding of the skills and analysis actuaries can bring? At a personal level, how can individual actuaries step out from the established and traditional stereotypes of what actuaries can and want to do, and grow their professional opportunity pool? We suggest some things that can be done to address this and promote both individuals and the profession. As an actuary, you have the opportunity to progress your career as you want and leave a legacy for actuaries who follow you.
